I don't know much about the emergent stream of faith but it does line up very well with what I also believe - well if I go according to the article anyways. I care about the poor, serving the communities, and breaking religious barriers (and eschewing political power). I think the movement gives out faith a shiny, happy face.
It is the happy face part that bothers a lot of folks. In some circles, it seems, that if you are not spending your time pointing out the sins of others you are missing the gospel. :)
If you haven't read Brian McLaren's "Everything must change", I highly recommend it - based on your religious proclivities.
